RIEDC Celebrates REF Grant Recipients

Expanding Renewable Energy Fund capabilities is a priority for the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) in 2009. The increase of investment in renewable energy projects will have a direct impact on the green economy and enhance Rhode Island’s workforce.

The Renewable Energy Fund recently awarded 17 grants to Rhode Island communities, organizations and businesses that will fund renewable energy development projects or feasibility studies. To highlight the diverse array of renewable energy projects, the RIEDC has been hosting local events where community members, business owners, government affiliates and media have been in attendance. These events are an opportunity for the RIEDC to accomplish multiple goals within the Rhode Island communities and further build local relationships.

The events are exciting and span much of Rhode Island’s geography. Beginning in Bristol at Roger Williams University in late August, the RIEDC recognized the East Bay Energy Consortium, 9 communities, for their collaboration and efforts to determine the feasibility of wind turbine placement. Events since have been hosted in Providence where the Mayor’s office participated and on Block Island where they are forging ahead with both solar and offshore wind. Moving ahead into September and October the RIEDC will continue to drive forth the green message as well as celebrate these achievements in Tiverton, Portsmouth, North Smithfield, Cranston, Harrisville, North Kingstown and Narragansett.
