• Every Company Counts Hosts Office Hours at Local Chambers of Commerce

  Every Company Counts (ECC), the small business initiative of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, today announced it will hold regular office hours at Rhode Island’s Chambers of Commerce, bringing ECC’s services to the Ocean State’s local communities.

• Senate Confirms RIEDC Executive Director Keith Stokes, New RIEDC Board Members

  The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation announced that Keith W. Stokes was unanimously confirmed as the agency’s executive director by the Senate. The Senate also confirmed Carcieri’s 12 nominees to RIEDC’s Board of Directors.

• RIEDC Awards $10,000 Small Business Loan to Spirare Surfboards

  The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation today announced that its Small Business Loan Fund has awarded start-up company Spirare Surfboards a $10,000 micro-business loan. The loan will help the newly established surfboard company, which produces surfboards with a fine-art design, a high degree of functionality and eco-friendly materials, expand its business.

• Slater-Backed Cardiorobotics Closes $11.6 Million Series A Financing

  The Slater Technology Fund announced today that one of its portfolio companies, Cardiorobotics, Inc., has closed on an $11.6-million Series A financing. Slater participated in the financing round, which was led by Eagle Ventures.

  Governor Donald L. Carcieri joined members of the local banking community, the Small Business Administration and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation at a press conference to unveil details of the Small Business Stimulus Package. The six point package included an infusion of capital into the State’s Small Business Loan Fund (SBLF), a state-backed loan guarantee program to encourage lending to small business, and a pledge from the local banking community to invest more than $165 million into small and mid-sized Rhode Island businesses over the next two years, and an additional pledge of $5 million in gap financing from the Business Development Company of Rhode Island.
