Senate Confirms RIEDC Executive Director Keith Stokes, New RIEDC Board Members

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation announced that Keith W. Stokes was unanimously confirmed as the agency’s executive director by the Senate. The Senate also confirmed Carcieri’s 12 nominees to RIEDC’s Board of Directors.

Quonset’s Port of Davisville Pursuing Marine Highway Corridor Program

The Quonset Development Corporation is moving to have the Port of Davisville included in the federal Marine Highway Corridor Program. The program establishes marine corridors to transport freight and passengers via ship, barge or ferry as an alternative to utilizing congested highway infrastructure.

RI-CIE Launches in Providence as Resource for Entrepreneurs

New International Yacht Restoration School Marine Systems Training Facility Being Launched

The latest in a development of commercial facilities on Franklin Street in Bristol isn’t just another new building. Scheduled for its Official Opening on March 28, the building at the corner of Franklin and Buttonwood Streets “represents the culmination of an idea to bring the marine trades and related educational programs together”, according to Andy Tyska, Developer of the Franklin Street Marine Corridor.

NUWC Awards $35M IT Contract to Three Aquidneck Island Companies

Carcieri Names Deepwater Wind as Developer for Rhode Island’s Off-Shore Wind Farm

Governor Donald L. Carcieri announced that Deepwater Wind was chosen as the successful developer to construct a wind energy project off the shores of Rhode Island that will provide 1.3 million megawatt hours per year of renewable energy – 15 percent of all electricity used in the state.

Cutting-Edge Composites Training Program is Launched in R.I.

The Rhode Island Economic Development (RIEDC) in conjunction with the New England Institute of Technology announced today open enrollment in a federally funded workforce development program targeting the marine trades industry in the Ocean State. The Composite Repair & Boat Construction Training program is an intensive 12-week program aimed at increasing the number of qualified employees who have an expertise working with composite materials.

RIEDC Aids Goetz Custom Boats with Workforce Development, Financing

Bristol’s Goetz Custom Boats was recently awarded a Governor’s Workforce Board grant of $68,000 to train 20 new employees as well as financing that helped the company build a 43,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Bristol. The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation assisted Goetz in obtaining both the workforce grant and financing for their new facility.
