Wind and Solar Projects Move Forward
On November 23, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors voted in favor to partially fund three projects put forth by the Renewable Energy Fund (REF). The funding will support the installation of two solar systems and a wind turbine.
“The Renewable Energy Fund has done a superb job at identifying projects with significant renewable energy potential,” says J. Michael Saul, RIEDC interim director. “We are pleased to support these organizations in their renewable energy goals and committed to progressing green technology initiatives in Rhode Island.”
The approved projects included $115,709 for a 60-kilowatt solar system on the roof of the Gem Plumbing & Heating Co. Inc. headquartered in Lincoln, $59,000 to help pay for a 50-kilowatt solar system for the new Cole Middle School in East Greenwich and $137,500 to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) to erect a 100-kilowatt wind turbine at Fishermen’s Memorial State Park in Narragansett.
