RIEDC partners with local manufacturers looking to diversify into new markets

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, in partnership with Rhode Island organizations such as Goetz Custom Technologies, Resolute Racing Shells, Vulcan Catalytic Systems and the New England Institute of Technology showcased their composite technology capabilities and explored new market opportunities at the Society for Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) 2009 in Baltimore.

With more than 20 years of composite technology expertise, Rhode Island boat builders are widely acknowledged leaders in composite technology for use in watercrafts. However, with the increasing use of composites in numerous manufacturing applications, Rhode Island builders now have new incentive to look beyond their traditional use of composites in order to expand their product portfolios.

“RIEDC has proven to be a very effective partner for us in our latest successful collaboration – the SAMPE show in Baltimore,” says Eric Goetz, President of Goetz Custom Technologies. “We joined with RIEDC and several other Rhode Island firms in one booth and the organizational framework which RIEDC setup enabled us to easily cooperate and concentrate our outreach efforts. Presenting a unified Rhode Island message showed the audience that we do not operate in a vacuum, but operate in a state which values our technological expertise and is willing to support it.”

That spirit of cooperation allowed Rhode Island composite technology companies to actively network with and discuss commercial opportunities in industries such as military, aerospace, healthcare and renewable energy where composites are now being incorporated into diverse products such as military vehicles, fighter jets, commercial airliners, wind turbines, X-Ray tables and building products.

“Our manufacturers have an enormous depth of composite technology expertise that lends itself to applications across multiple industries,” says Paul Harden, RIEDC Marine Trades Business Manager. “Rhode Island possesses the highly trained workforce and training programs to successfully support the manufacture of high value added composite products for a new and diversified customer base,.”
