Governor Chafee and Federal Delegation Announce Grant Funds to Help Keep Manufacturing Company in Rhode Island

In 2011, Rhode Island was awarded $13.1 million in federal funds to help finance small businesses through the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). Today, Governor Lincoln D. Chafee, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Representative David Cicilline joined local officials, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC), company management and employees to celebrate SSBCI financing which helped keep North Smithfield-based National Marker Company (NMC) and 58 manufacturing jobs in Rhode Island. The company recently received a $250,000 SSBCI loan through the RIEDC’s Small Business Loan Fund.

The Rhode Island healthcare company is adding 13 new jobs with the help of a $250,000 loan from the RIEDC’s Small Business Loan Fund.

Governor Lincoln D. Chafee joined with state officials and local business leaders today to celebrated the beginning of construction of a new Wide World of Indoor Sports facility in the Quonset Business Park in North Kingstown, RI. The new multi-use health and wellness sports complex is expected to create approximately 85 new full- and part-time jobs when completed.

Governor Lincoln Chafee announced today that he is making a $250,000 grant available to the 195 Redevelopment Commission through the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation. The grant will provide the Commission with the necessary operating funds to begin the next stages of its work, including engineering planning and environmental impact analysis.

Governor Lincoln D. Chafee Announces New Central Falls Economic Expansion Initiatives and Increased Tax Exemptions

Governor Lincoln D. Chafee announced today that, after stabilizing Central Falls' finances, the Office of the Receiver is now pursuing ways to expand the city's tax base while also offering tax relief for the state's poorest citizens. In order to grow its economy, Central Falls is unveiling an Economic Expansion Incentive Program designed to encourage significant capital investments and improvements to the city's building stock and spur the creation of new jobs within city limits. At the same time, state-appointed Receiver Robert G. Flanders, Jr. also proposes approximately 25% increases to a series of property tax exemptions aimed at homeowners, senior citizens, and veterans.
