Fidelity Constructing Largest Office Building in Rhode Island

Fidelity Investments, one of the world's largest providers of financial services, is in the midst of building its next office building in its 500-acre Smithfield campus. When completed, the 577,000-square-foot, four-level structure will be the largest office building in the state and will house at least 1,000 employees by the third quarter of 2008.

The building is the third constructed on Fidelity's Smithfield site since 1998. When completed, the Smithfield campus will be the home of three Fidelity business services headquarters and more than 3,000 employees.

Fidelity's master plan for the site allows for construction of up to five building in the campus. The company opened its first building in 1998 and followed up with the construction of a second building in 2000.

Currently, the two occupied buildings in the campus account for more than 1,600 employees. The third building will add an additional 1,000 employees to the campus. A five-level parking garage is also being built to serve the buildings.

Fidelity's Smithfield project has accumulated more than 390,000 man hours of construction labor and is expected to contribute more than $1 million in construction wages.
