At a June 12, 2007 awards ceremony, RIMES was presented "the Creative Partnership Award" by the Workforce partnership of Greater Rhode Island from Dottie Miller, Acting Executive Director and Steven Kitchin, Chair. The award was given in recognition of the contributions to the state workforce by the RIMES M.O.S.T (Machine Operators Skills Training) program. Governor Carcieri presented the award to Leslie Taito, RIMES CEO and Ed Murphy, RIMES M.O.S.T Program Manager. The Governor then presented them a gubernatorial citation of congratulations.
The M.O.S.T program is funded by the US Department of Labor in order to address an estimated shortage of 56,000 skilled machinists throughout the United States. The goal of the M.O.S.T pilot program is to train and place 300 machine operators throughout the New England states. The trainees are placed in participating manufacturing companies that use CNC machine tools. These companies agree to a 60 day on the job training (OJT) program once the trainees enter their workforce.
