What's a Vex Challenge?
In 2006, the Business Innovation Factory launched a program to bring FIRST's Vex Challenge, a premier educational robotics program founded by scientist and inventor Dean Kamen, to each of Rhode Island's high schools.
With support from the Rhode Island Science and Technology Advisory Council, New England Institute of Technology and the Rhode Island Tech Collective, Rhode Island is the first state in the country to offer the Vex program statewide.
Using the Vex framework, student teams were challenged to construct a working robot capable of completing a specific set of tasks. On March 31, teams will go head-to-head in a competition that tests each robot's capabilities. Forget boring science fairs—the Vex Challenge tournament will bring the same energy and enthusiasm to learning as traditionally found at school sporting events!
The FIRST Vex Challenge Tournament will be held at New England Institute of Technology's Automotive Center located at 101 Access Road in Warwick, Rhode Island.
