RIEDC Awards $10,000 Small Business Loan to Spirare Surfboards

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation today announced that its Small Business Loan Fund has awarded start-up company Spirare Surfboards a $10,000 micro-business loan. The loan will help the newly established surfboard company, which produces surfboards with a fine-art design, a high degree of functionality and eco-friendly materials, expand its business.

Office of Energy Resources Offers Renewable Energy Grants to Rhode Islanders through Recovery Act

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources today announced that the Office is accepting grant applications for non-utility scale renewable energy projects in Rhode Island. The grants, totaling $8,395,000, are funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and are available to Rhode Island residents, businesses, municipalities, non-profit organizations, academic institutions. The grants are designed to help pay for up to 25 percent of the up front costs of renewable energy projects.

Governor Carcieri Names Keith Stokes Executive Director of Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation

Governor Donald L. Carcieri today appointed Keith Stokes as Executive Director for the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RI EDC). Under the terms of the agreement, Stokes, 51, will serve in the position for one year, pending advice and consent of the Rhode Island State Senate.

Deepwater Wind and National Grid Sign 20-Year Power-Purchase Agreement for Offshore Wind Energy

Carcieri today announced that Deepwater Wind and National Grid have signed a 20-year, power-purchase agreement, marking a significant milestone in Rhode Island’s path toward developing the nation’s first offshore wind farm and establishing a green-collar industry. The agreement marks only the nation’s second such power-purchase agreement for renewable, offshore wind energy.

RIEDC Board of Directors Approve Funding for Three Renewable Energy Projects

Carcieri and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation today announced the release of the “Statewide Strategic Plan for Office and Industrial Site Development.” The plan proposes general site development recommendations as well as more specific recommendations based on geographic area that will position Rhode Island to compete for new economic opportunities.
