East Bay Energy Consortium
The East Bay Energy Consortium consists of the cities and towns of the East Bay region, including Bristol, Warren, Barrington, East Providence, Portsmouth, Little Compton, Tiverton, Middletown and Newport. The consortium is working together to collaboratively explore means to reduce energy expenses and increase renewable energy production. The group is seeking funding to determine the feasibility of multiple sites within the East Bay that could make for good wind turbine locations. Added the feasibility study would outline the legal and technical issues that are present in moving forward with a “community” based wind project for the participating cities and towns. Specifically the tasks include: 1) Pre-feasibility, 2) Detailed Feasibility, 3) Legal Structure, 4) Legislative Issues. This project is being funded in conjunction with the Rhode Island Foundation.
