Strategy 4: Increase the Skills and Experience of Rhode Island’s Workforce
To benefit from the opportunities created by a 21st century economy, Rhode Islanders at every wage level must be prepared with new and flexible skill sets.
Action: RIEDC and the Community College of Rhode Island partner to form the CCRI 21st century workforce commission
With more than 6,000 students and four campuses throughout the state, the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) is a critical component of our state’s workforce development system. The CCRI 21st Century Workforce Commission will propose actions to strengthen CCRI’s position as a key institution in creating a 21st century workforce prepared for the high-wage job opportunities of a knowledge economy.
Action: Create 21st century workforce development subcommittee of the Governor’s Workforce Board
The RIEDC, Department of Labor and Training and the Governor’s Workforce Board recently formed the 21st Century Workforce Development Subcommittee. The subcommittee will define job skill requirements across high-wage sectors, identify gaps between our current workforce and the requirements for a 21st century workforce, recommend policies and programs to close gaps and develop a performance tracking system.
